The questions we get asked
Do I have to pay to use the map offline?
No. Your region's base maps — every state in it — your club's trails, closures and hazard pins all work with no signal, on the free tier — and keeping that map up to date is free too. An officer can even edit the club's trails offline for free: a volunteer doing unpaid work for their club should never meet a paywall.
Premium covers carrying several regions at once. A region is a whole part of the country — the Northeast, the Midwest, the South, the West — so on the free tier, riding to the next state over is already covered. On the free tier you can switch which region you keep any time, so moving or riding somewhere new costs nothing — you just hold one at a time.
What happens to my rides if I don't subscribe?
They are recorded and kept on your phone forever, and you can view, mark and export them. Premium buys us holding a copy for you — nothing is deleted, capped or hidden if you don't.
Do you charge riders to report a hazard?
Never. Reporting a washout, submitting a trail and suggesting a change are free for everyone, always. Charging for the thing that keeps the map honest would be charging for the product.
Are there ads?
Yes, in the free app: a small banner on list and detail screens, and one full‑screen ad after you finish something. Premium removes both. What ads never touch is the work — reporting a hazard, marking a stretch, working offline, importing a club's archive and moderating what riders send are all free, unadvertised and staying that way, and there is no ad on the map itself.
Will an ad interrupt me on the trail?
No, and that is a rule in the code rather than an intention. A small banner appears only on reading screens — never on the map, never in an editor or a wizard, never while a ride is recording, and never on a volunteer's moderation queue. Anything full‑screen appears only after you have finished something — a ride saved, a report sent, an import submitted — never on the way in, never more than once in ten minutes, and never before the confirmation you were reading has had a moment on screen. If you are in the middle of doing something, nothing appears.
We're a club with no budget. Can we still be on here?
Yes. Claiming your trails, moderating what riders send, keeping the map current and running your roster are free and stay free. There is nothing a club has to buy.
Do I need Premium to plan a route?
No. Pick where you are and where you are going, add stops, and you get the whole way through for free — the miles, the trails it uses, the closures and postings it routed around, and the ones it could not avoid, named. You can compare other ways round too.
Premium is for riding it: the next turn on a card, the distance to it, the turn read out loud, and keeping the route for next season. Warnings about hazards, closures and marked stretches are spoken free as you come up on them, route or no route — that is safety information, and it is never behind the subscription.
Do I need Premium to put the map on my dash?
Yes. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are part of Premium. Everything the dash shows you — the trail map, your ride recording, and the hazard alert as you approach open water or a washout — is free on the phone and stays free; what Premium buys is having it on the head unit while the phone stays stowed.
Plug in without it and the dash tells you that rather than showing you nothing, so nobody is left wondering whether the app is broken.
When can I download it, and is it on iPhone?
Neither store has it yet. The app is built and in final testing; Android goes first and iOS follows, and the iOS build already runs — we would rather ship it late than ship it wrong. In the meantime this website is the whole map: browse any trail system, see what is closed right now, and send the link to anyone who is asking.
